A former senior accountant at one of the world’s most renowned international accounting firms, KPMG, Shannon is a 27-year veteran of the financial industry. He was a Silver Team Financial Advisor for American Express Financial Advisors, one of the original comprehensive financial planning firms in the country.
Subsequently, he helped found a large regional financial and tax planning firm where he was a Senior Vice President and an Advanced Planning Specialist. He was in charge of accounting firm acquisitions and responsible for integrating those firms into a financial planning environment.
Shannon has both trained and led Financial Advisors, CPA’s, Enrolled Agents, Attorneys and other financial specialists. He’s conducted seminars and training sessions at the corporate level, as well as guest lectures at both Universities and Professional Associations, covering topics in finance and business. Shannon has lectured at Wayne State University, Oakland University, University of Detroit Mercy, Lansing Community College, Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Florida Gulf Coast University, University of South Florida, Florida State University, Barry University, Wolford College, Berry College (Rome, GA), University of Cincinnati, and University of Southern Mississippi. Shannon has also given lectures at the Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants (MAPA), Michigan Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA), Executive Anesthesia Solutions (EAS), Nurse Anesthesia Faculty Associates (NAFA), and the Florida Association of Nurse Anesthetists (FANA).
He and his wife of 23 years have three children. Shannon enjoys golf and travel. The competitive spirit that guided him as a college athlete now finds expression in his role as a passionate entrepreneur.
A graduate of DePauw University with a Master’s in Business Administration from Northwood University, Henry started in 1997 as a financial advisor and insurance specialist. His expertise and focus is retirement, estate, and income tax planning.
He’s also very active in his community; serving the local Rotary Club as past-president in 2003-2004. He is a board member of the local chapter of United Way as well as the past Campaign Chair (2008-2009). He began and funded a scholarship at Lake Superior State University seeking to build relationships with current students, offer them internship opportunities, and provide mentoring for students seeking business experience. He is an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Sault Ste. Marie where he is Vice-President of the Trustee Board. “Community involvement,” says Henry, “is my chance to give back to those who have given me so much.”
He is an avid golfer and a dedicated college sports fan, with a special affection for local sports and anything involving Notre Dame. Henry enjoys spending as much time as he can with his wife and their two young daughters.
James is passionate about helping his clients pursue their financial goals. Since 2001 James has worked with clients to navigate various stock, bond, and investment markets. His comprehensive approach enables him to make personalized recommendations to help clients address their short-term and long-term goals.
James received a Master’s in Business Administration from the DeVos Graduate School of Management at Northwood University along with a BA in Finance from Oakland University. In an effort to expand his Wealth Management acumen he has earned both the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designations.
James and his wife Andrea have been married since 2008 and have two sons, Thomas, George, and a daughter, Katherine. James’ passions include spending time with family and friends, honing his investment knowledge, running, reading, and spending time outdoors. “I feel very fortunate to have been able to find a balance between my professional and personal passions.”
Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Wayne State University, majoring in Finance/Investments. Chris spent 12 years in the mortgage and banking industry and since 2000, he has worked in the financial and tax planning arena. During this time, he worked in two local financial planning firms.
Chris has achieved several major designations. He took the CFP® examination and met other criteria to gain his CFP® certificate and passed an IRS exam to become an Enrolled Agent (EA). Chris is dedicated to staying up-to-date on the latest economic and industry changes. He also immerses himself in a wide range of subjects that a financial planner needs to master and share—everything from starting an investment plan, assessing insurance needs, or educating his clients about estate planning. He has led tax, investment and retirement seminars, and trained other advisors in financial planning concepts.
Chris is an avid runner and enjoys creating some of the finest barbecue in the Lower Peninsula. He’s been married to his wife, Nancy since 1998 and they have three wonderful children; Keith, Natalie, and Rebecca.
Jill graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She completed nine college-level courses for her Chartered Financial Consultant designation; in addition, she is licensed for Property and Casualty Insurance, Life & Health Insurance, Series 6, 7 & 63.
She has been a partner to a financial planning practice for the last 10 years that serves clients in more than ten different states. In addition to her role as Financial Advisor for over the last decade, Jill has managed insurance training and consulted on employee benefits for multiple companies in the Metro Detroit Area.
Her role is and always has been to achieve client satisfaction through planning, preparation, and implementation of all of their financial needs and desires.
Jill enjoys spare time with her son, TJ. She especially loves watching him play baseball and football and is his biggest fan on the sidelines. When not on the sidelines, Jill enjoys golfing together with TJ. She also enjoys cooking and spending time relaxing on the beach.
David started his career at a Michigan based regional financial and tax planning firm where he was a Registered Investment Advisor, Business Development Specialist, Regional Seminar Coordinator, and in charge of local new hire marketing training. As a Business Development Specialist David was responsible for meeting with medium to small business owners regarding their health benefits, retirement plans, and tax and business planning where he would determine if the business had any misalignments from a cost, service, or benefit perspective. When he was working as the Seminar Coordinator he would schedule, design, and manage the seminar from start through the presentation date with the advisor or and business owner.
David has both trained and led financial advisors and other financial specialists. He has conducted seminars and training sessions at the corporate level, as well as guest lectures at businesses and professional associations, covering topics in finance and business. David has also given lectures at the Michigan State Employees Retirees Association (SERA), Rotary, where he has both served as Vice and as the Bi-centennial President, and VOICE INC.
He and his wife of 7 years have two children. David enjoys golf and travel. He actively supports the American Diabetes Association (ADA), National MS Society, and Great Lakes Bay Veterans Coalition both as a volunteer, participant, and fundraiser. David is a Chairperson for Audrey’s Army, a 501c3 charity dedicated to supporting medically fragile children and delivering Cricket’s hope gift bags. He also is passionate toward local theater and has been cast in several local productions and musicals in the Great Lakes Bay Theater region.
Jeff began his career in the financial services industry in 2011 after graduating from Western Michigan University – Haworth College of Business. In September of 2019 he joined Blumark as a Financial Advisor to help deliver and implement financial plans. Jeff has worked extensively in the 403(b) market helping clients understand their options and the role it plays in their overall plan. With the overwhelming amount of investment products, he knows the importance of having the proper resources available to educate clients on making well informed financial decisions. Most importantly, developing strong relationships with his clients is the foundation of everything he does, both professionally and personally.
Having a strong work ethic has always been a part of Jeff’s character which he learned from his father. When he isn’t in the office you can find him at gym. Enjoying the great outdoors Michigan has to offer is also where he likes to spend his free time.
Antonio DeSano joined Blumark in July of 2018 as the Financial Planning Director building and overseeing the Blumark financial planning process and working alongside the advisors delivering various types of financial recommendations. His primary role is developing client data and building complex plans for clients and delivering alongside with advisors in easy to understand terms for clients so they can implement their plans. He brings expertise in utilizing technology and building streamlined processes to deliver a great client experience. He also serves on the investment committee contributing with his experience in investment analysis and research from his time spent at UBS for 4 years as a Financial Advisor where he had a similar role in financial planning and investment analytics. Antonio also holds his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Accredited Wealth Management Advisor (AWMA) certifications.
In 2010, he earned his Bachelors in Business Administration Degree majoring in Banking and Finance and Business Management at Northwood University in Midland, MI. He has two daughters he enjoys spending time with in his spare time along with exercising and watching all Michigan and Detroit sports.
Designation granted by the CFP® Board of Standards. Candidates must first have three years of financial planning experience and a bachelor’s degree, or five years of financial planning experience before they can qualify. After completing a final certification exam, the CFP® certificant must follow up with 30 hours of continued education every two years. CFP® professionals take extensive coursework in financial strategies, tax strategies, employee benefits, retirement and estate strategies, investment management, and insurance.
Designation granted by The American College, Bryn Mawr, PA. ChFC candidates must complete several years’ worth of examinations and training. ChFC professionals are guided by a strict code of ethics involving professionalism, client service and continuing education requirements. They have in-depth knowledge of key financial services disciplines including insurance, income taxation, retirement planning, investments, and estate planning strategies.
An Enrolled Agent” (EA) is a tax professional who has passed an IRS test covering all aspects of taxation, plus passed an IRS background check. Enrolled Agents have passed a two-day, 8-hour examination. The examination (called the Special Enrollment Examination) covers all aspects of federal tax law, including the taxation of individuals, corporations, partnerships, and various regulations governing IRS collections and audit procedures. Like CPAs and tax attorneys, EAs can handle any type of tax matter and represent their client’s interests before the IRS. Unlike CPAs and tax attorneys, Enrolled Agents are tested directly by the IRS, and enrolled agents focus exclusively on tax accounting.
A rigorous course of study in retirement planning offered by The American College, Bryn Mawr, PA. The number of required courses varies based on other designations that have already been obtained. CASL professionals have specific knowledge and experience to assist mature clients with health insurance, investments, and retirement and estate planning strategies.
A member of the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts who specializes in the financial issues surrounding divorce. The role of the CDFA includes acting as an advisor to one party’s divorce lawyer, or as a mediator for both parties. A CDFA uses his or her knowledge of tax law, asset distribution, and short- and long-term financial planning to achieve an equitable settlement.
Designation granted by The American College, Bryn Mawr, PA, representing the pinnacle in insurance knowledge. CLU professionals must complete eight required courses and pass an exam that shows in-depth knowledge of the insurance needs of individuals and business owners. Financial representatives with this credential specialize in life insurance and estate planning strategies.
The REBC designation is designed for specialists in the complex field of employee benefits. The program covers pensions, retirement plan funding, group medical plans, long-term care, executive compensation, personnel management, and other benefit programs.
The American College created the RICP® designation to educate financial advisors on how to help their clients ensure their nest eggs last as long as retirement does, creating peace of mind during a retirement that could be decades long.
The RICP program consists of three courses: Retirement Income Process, Strategies and Solutions; Sources of Retirement Income; and Managing the Retirement Income Plan. It is designed for financial professionals who already have a broad-based financial planning credential such as Chartered Financial Consultant, Certified Financial Planner or Chartered Life Underwriter or whose businesses already emphasize retirement income planning. Applicants must have three-plus years of relevant work experience, complete the three courses, and pass a 100-question exam. RICPs must adhere to a code of ethics and meet continuing education and reporting requirements.
CTS® – Certified Tax Specialist
The Certified Tax Specialist is the only nationally recognized tax designation by the Institute of Business & Finance (IBF). This graduate-level designation is conferred upon candidates who complete an educational program focusing on personal income taxes and methods to reduce tax liability.
CPFA – Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor
The Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA) credential – developed by some of the nation’s leading advisors and retirement plan experts – demonstrates your knowledge, expertise and commitment to working with retirement plans. Plan advisors who earn their CPFA demonstrate the expertise required to act as a plan fiduciary or help plan fiduciaries manage their roles and responsibilities.
